LUTs vs PowerGrades

A LUT gives you a look. A PowerGrade lets you open it up and change the parts. Here's how to choose what works for you.

The main difference

A LUT changes colors using a fixed set of values. You can adjust its strength in compatible editors, but you can't open the file and change the steps that made the look.

A PowerGrade gives you those separate parts in DaVinci Resolve. Want to change one part of the grade? You can. A PowerGrade can also include LUTs, so the two can work together.

Pick what fits

LUTs are quick and simple, including in DaVinci Resolve. Pick a look and adjust its strength.

A PowerGrade is the better choice when you want to work in more detail and change individual parts of the grade.

Using Resolve doesn't mean you need a PowerGrade. Choose how much control you want. CineRush requires DaVinci Resolve Studio.
